How to set yourself up for a winning quarter ahead
and lessons learned from Argentina's current challenges
Happy Easter to those who were celebrating this weekend! In this week’s issue, we’re looking at some badass Chrome extensions to save you time, and how we can really set ourselves up for success in our rapidly changing world.
“What we call our future is the shadow that our past projects in front of us.”
The world as we know it will never be the same.
Sure, we hear statements like this all the time about how things are changing, and will evolve like crazy in the future, but what does this mean for us in our businesses and our daily lives?
And more importantly, what can we actually do about it?
Based on William Strauss & Neil Howe’s book, “The Fourth Turning”, we’re (Western Countries) currently in the 4th phase of this ~80-year cycle, which is represented by a phase of ‘crisis’.
Between the massive societal, political and economic shifts that are happening during this stage, we also have rapidly accelerating advances in accessible AI since ChatGPT’s release just a year and a half ago.
This puts us in a unique time in history — and in each of our lives — to really recreate ourselves and our businesses for this new future…
Or to be left behind.
I’m pretty optimistic by nature, and try to hold this view on where we’re going with AI and through this fourth turning.
At the same time, I also believe that we each need to take responsibility as sovereign individuals and business owners to make sure we can set ourselves up for as bright of a future as possible.
As I walk through the streets of Buenos Aires, I’m reminded by every thriving business or one that’s recently shut down —that they’re facing serious changes in their society and economy here, and they’ve faced similar cycles before.
If you’re not familiar with Argentine history, they went from one of the most prosperous nations in the early 1900s, to a couple of government coups, runs on the bank and serious authoritarian restrictions… to now experiencing triple-digit inflation.
Oh and if that hasn’t been enough — their capital is currently dealing with an epidemic that I’ve felt the effects of, to the tune of about 30+ bites in the last day from potentially dengue-carrying mosquitos 🦟 😅
While it’s been tough on them, I appreciate how they maintain their hopeful attitude and optimistic outlook despite their rocky past and turbulent present (as I’m borrowing from to not let these mosquitos take away from my experience).
A new friend I met this weekend expressed this perspective in this:
Argentines are more resilient and adaptable because of what they’ve gone through, and we need to hold the same hope for the future, rooted in these ever-apparent essential traits.
Sunny streets of Palermo, Buenos Aires
On this Easter Sunday and last day of the month & quarter, I’m taking the time to really reflect on what this means for me and how we can be empowered to build the best possible future for ourselves, our loved ones, our societies and the world at large.
So how do we face this fourth turning?
Our businesses will have to adapt; and it’ll be more important than ever that as we move through these changes, we’re grounded in our values, principles and goals.
One way that’s proving to be an endlessly helpful way of better supporting myself and my business?
By taking the time to celebrate some wins from the start of the year, and aligning my strategy for what’s next with whatever tools and tactics that will best set me up for success.
I’ve built out a custom GPT to help me with this and have been testing out the below couple tools which are solid examples of free AI solutions that can really help us be more productive so we can carve out more time for what matters most.
If you want my business alignment GPT to help you with your quarterly planning, let me know and I’ll send it over 🙂
I’ll leave you with this to reflect on as you head into the new week, month and quarter.
What are your practices to keep yourself grounded in times of change?
How can you better develop resilience and adaptability in yourself and your business this quarter?
However you’ve been celebrating — whether that’s with loved ones, or just taking the time for yourself this weekend to celebrate some wins from this past month & quarter…
I hope you’ve enjoyed wherever you’re at and you’re ready for a good week ahead!
Just as I started this issue, I’m wrapping it up with a good overview video on where we’re at within the context of the Fourth Turning.
It’s a pretty thorough overview on the concept and book, as well as what role we can all play as we move through this time.
I’ll end this on a more positive note — while the stage we’re technically in might be one of “crisis”, on the other side of it comes an even better and more abundant season ahead.
Just like the Argentines around me prove the importance of being prepared for change, we have to lean into change and prepare ourselves so we’re not left behind.
To land this plane, here’s a quote from the author:
”Fourth turnings are necessary, just like winter is necessary. Winter kills everything off so that new things can grow. Just as forests need fires, rivers need floods — so does society that cleans out debris, that no longer functions and that shifts the whole playing field.
This is what fourth turnings do. They renew us.
Fourth turnings are the price we must pay for a new golden age.
History has shown this time after time. We’re about to see it again in what I expect to be a fascinating time in our history where we can truly be all-in engaged.”
It's up to us to respond to this cycle in a way that benefits ourselves and society.
How will you respond?
With AI here to stay and it advancing at a mind-blowing speed, how will you keep yourself ahead so that you’re not left behind?
I’ve been helping set my clients up with AI systems that create more business alignment, collapse workflows, build out marketing content on auto-pilot and so much more.
I’m so excited by the results they’re getting and what is possible with these methods of working with AI to help us all thrive in business.
